Excellent article, Professor Robinson. I think the US needs to get over its "Francis Fukuyama" moment and foster cooperation with Russia. The big mistake, I believe, was not including Russia - after the fall of the Soviet Union - into a pan-European security agreement. Instead, it choose to expand NATO, which as you point out, has not always acted in a defensive manner, as well as interfere in Russia's "reddest of red lines"; i,.e., Ukraine.

"the architects of these policies strike me not so much as cynics who know full well what they are doing but as true believers"

Well, I'm not a believer in that theory. In order to swallow the belief described above, the people concerned would have to be so simple-minded as to be only fit for an institution. Or possibly that is the case, but the institution is structured so as to take care of these clowns in case they stumble over their own feet and break their necks. But then - who is running the institution? Answers on a postcard, please.

Really wonderful Paul. Your ideologically driven anti-Americanism profoundly biases your judgments and opinions. Here we have a fanatical dictator by the name of Vladimir Putin killing hundreds of thousands of people in an act of genocide while he represses his own people and you are worried about American imperialism. Have you ever been to Ukraine Paul? Do you know any Ukrainian people who are fighting now for their survival. They don't really count for you except for you ideological delusions. My God!!!

"My God" is right but not with respect to the author's so called Anti Americanism, but with respect to your gross ignorance of the whole Russia,Ukraine violence. This military embroligo is a direct result of US intervention in the politics and foreign association of a close neignbour of Russia's. The rest of the World can only come to the conclusion that the US set up Ukraine as a fall guy proxy to drain Russia of men and treasury while the US continues its malign support for Ukraine's ultimate destruction as a viable State. I find the whole evil scheme to be disgusting! Perhaps you should study Russia to enlighten yourself. It is now a nascent Democracy, Capitalist and Christian. Why should it be restrained in any way?

Normal Russian troll strategy is to use exaggeration, cynicism, whataboutism, false equivalencies, insults, or if all else fails to tell sheer outright lies by inhabiting parallel universes. And you Archie get the prize!!! "Russia.....Democracy, Capitalist and Christian!!!!! You are truly the clown of the week!

Really wonderful Barry. Your ideologically driven pro-Americanism profoundly biases your judgments and opinions. You fantasize a fanatical dictator by the name of Vladimir Putin while not seeing American imperialism killing hundreds of thousands in Ukraine and elsewhere in an act of genocide. Have you ever been to Donbas Barry? Do you know any Afghan, Syrian, Libyan, Iraqi, list is too long of people who are fighting now for their survival after US and NATO benevolent intervention. They don't really count for you except for your INSANE ideological delusions. My God!!!

I know much more than you friend. Your cynicism and aggressiveness expose your obvious limitations! Russian propaganda is always a mirror of itself!

Similarly, US propaganda is always a mirror of itself, and in this case, not in a good way. If you want people to be convinced by your 'argument', I suggest you take your blinkers off before commenting again.

Did you actually comprehend the article? It's all right to start off with stupid opinions, but if you persist with them in spite of evidence to the contrary, then you are just a waste of neurones.
